Merry Hell

We are tonight moored in the Merry Hill development. To read all about the history and controversy of this site follow the link to my blog posting on our last visit in 2009.

The only route in or out of Hawne Basin involved negotiating the Gosty (or Gorsty) Hill Tunnel.

This is very narrow, very low and has no towpath.

Fortunately it is straight so checking for oncoming traffic is relatively simple.

To maintain the driver's attention the tunnel gets smaller the further  you travel.

Until you wonder if it really is passible.

Barely any room to see over the boat by the time we reach the other end.

After four hours of green ex-industrial landscape we arrived at Merry Hill which is like another world.
